As we celebrate National Women’s day, my hope for South African women is that we would rise up to who we truly are. That as we see another woman navigate life, we become that helping hand in any capacity that we can – and not break them down. As women, I wish that we would realise the power in collaboration and not feel intimidated by the success of another, but instead search for lessons in their journey that we too can use to build ourselves up. As South African women, I wish that we would begin to have conversations that bring to light the many adversities we face, as well as brainstorm on actionable ways to carry us all forward. My wish for South African women is that we would search each of our childhood traumas and prioritise healing. Without healing, we will not be able to fully tap into all…
It’s that time of the year again where we are hearing and reading a lot of “New Year, New Me” declerations. For me, a new year symbolises an opportunity to try again. It isn’t a beginning nor is it an end, but a continuation of one’s life journey. The new year must serve as a mark for deciding how you wish to proceed on this very journey. To try do things in a better way with a renewed spirit and renewed effort. It’s basically like hitting the refresh button. Look, there are too many solid lessons and revelations from the previous year not to take them into the new year. So with that said, are we saying “New Year, New Me” or “New Year, Same (but more focused) Me?” It’s really up to you! Let’s establish what a New Year’s Resolution is: “A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, most common in…

Hey Lovers! Some of you may have peeped my Insta stories on the day of Lorna Maseko’s True Love cover luncheon at Codfather, Sandton. For those who didn’t, I’ve shared a vlog from the day below. But before we get into that, I would love to share with you all just how much the article on Lorna by Kemong Mopedi stuck out for me, as well as how I personally identify with some of what I read. Energy speaks louder than me saying hello to you, and it’s not something you can fake. I’m very down to earth and just want to spread positive energy at all times. – Lorna Very often, we tend to create ideas in our minds of who a person is before we even get the chance to have a personal interaction with them. Our conclusions are largely drawn from hearsay as well as the visual…
It always feels great stepping into a new year. But it feels even greater once you’ve actually had time to reflect on the year that has been. “If you want to move forward often look back, otherwise you’ll forget where you came from and where you need to go” The above quote slips right into my list of unpopular opinions. “Never look back” is usually the advice people give, and yet I believe otherwise. Reflecting on my young journey is part of my motivation, and the lessons I’ve learnt along the way have been unmatched. Reflecting has also helped me determine how far or near I am to where I want to be. It’s helped me re consider, switch up on my strategies but most of all it’s helped me remain faithful and confident even in my darkest hours. I’m sure we’ve all bumped into words of encouragement for the…
I don’t think there’s ever been a crazier time to be a women in this world! The roaring inside of us, our strength, our compassion, our intellect and everything about ALL the women in us are being tested… in more ways than one. The woman who dares to strive for excellence ethically, without having to compromise who she is. The woman who is fierce enough to comfortably live in the skin she’s been blessed with but has to run through survival tactics everyday should harm come her way. The intelligent woman who finds value and meaning from being a homemaker but is faced daily with words thrown at her such as lazy or incapable. The woman who has to work multiple jobs and cross night to complete her studies. The woman who is beautiful enough to make it on a magazine but is of color and therefore her voice is invalid…
Hey lovers, Once again, the Summer season is creeping up on us. With only one month to go, the chatter around summer bodies is growing louder and wider! We all know the saying which goes “Summer bodies are made in winter,” so I hope you’ve been sowing that seed you wish to reap the rewards for in summer! However, I feel as though as society we’re slowly but surely moving away from working out for a certain season and are leaning more toward leading a healthy lifestyle all year round, and I’m pleased with this! Finding a work out routine which works uniquely for you is the best way to effectively see results, oh and of course help you keep up the consistency! And while others may prefer to go to a gym to work out, others- like myself- prefer work outs in the comfort of their own homes and…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_AW32Yl6ps&spfreload=5 Each and every one of us have a woman/women who have played a significantly large role in seeing us to being the young ladies we are today. We simply don’t tell them enough how grateful we are for their presence in our lives or can’t put together in words our gratitude for all the moments we witnessed and those which they worked tirelessly “behind the scenes” to ensure we are well taken care of. For me, that woman in undoubtedly my mother, Fiki Tsekiso. The older I get the more I am able to recognise as well as appreciate the woman that she is to not only my sister and I, but to the community at large. This selfless mbokodo of mine has been through her fair share of trials and tribulations but always comes out stronger and wiser. When I think back to the time when both my sister…
I recently did a Sports Glam photoshoot with People Magazine which I absolutely loved! I embraced the fusion of my two loves – sports and fashion – and couldn’t have asked for a better shoot. I have been playing sports for as long as I can remember: from being the only girl on the field playing mini cricket at tournaments during primary school, right up to being Vice-Captain of the KZN touch rugby team. Sports has done so much in building my character – and being my “escape”. It saved me from getting into a whole lot of trouble and instilled in me such critical life values, and that is why I’ve decided to go all Sport on you for this blog post. In the new age South Africa, where we speak so proudly of our growth and economic transformation, we thus have the responsibility to grow, nurture as well…
It’s 1:52 AM and I just can’t seem to get my body to shut down and rest. Oh well, I guess this is all for a reason – I mean, we haven’t had “Tenacious Talks” in a minute. I think this time is a particularly good time, having just passed Easter, to engage. Also, it’s quite an interesting and trying time in politics in our country. Let me tell you, I’m so exhausted. The energy has been so overwhelming and exhausting! No matter how much we may try to avoid or distance ourselves from the realities of what’s going on in our country, we simply can’t! During one of the most recent strikes in the country while driving myself to Steers for some junk to feel better, a journalist from the Daily News contacted me for my opinion on the military print possibly being ban from being worn by the…
