A recent campaign which has caught the attention of many in South Africa is undoubtedly the #MakeItStop campaign . This campaign aims to create awareness of women’s abuse which was aligned to fall during the month of August , Women’s month .
The reception has been both negative and positively received by the masses. The concerns raised include those of the race of all the activists involved , which people feel implies that women abuse is exclusive to African women.
A second concern was that of the campaign dampening the celebration of women and highlighting mainly the negative.
The third and last main concern I have come across is that ‘celebrities’ were used for the campaign and not you girl next door.
My personal view is that this was a well put out campaign from people who have a voice , speaking up for those whose reach isn’t as large . I admire ‘ celebrities ‘ who use their platform for the greater good .
They say any publicity is good publicity right ? The aim is to get people talking , discussing , sharing their views and this was surely achieved.
I would hate however for the purpose and efforts to be overshadowed by a one dimensional view .

Gentlemen , we need you . We need your voice , we need your command at protecting our beautiful roses. Make it stop !
Kudos to Thando Thabethe for this campaign.
