As Africans, we can always delighted in season changes because with a season change we get the chance to explore the variety of fashion trends which best fit each season. And, what better way to round up the perfect look? With the perfect African hair style of course!
Winter is upon us with its dry and unforgiving cold weather. So, this is the perfect time to explore with your African hairstyles which give you enough cover up and lock in the moisture so as to not leave your hair breaking.
The latest and most recurring fashion trend has been that of embracing Africa and its many cultures. From the likes of Boity, Nomzamo Mbatha, Pearl Thusi and Nandi Mngoma, we have seen them very effortlessly strut red carpets in African designs (and or fabrics) which take from cultures from all over Africa.

Currently, a lot of ladies have chosen to take up the natural hair journey and by this the most predominant hair trends at protecting their hair have been the following:

Braids
Braids have been the most consistent, re occurring, most trusted go to hairstyle for many years and continue to remain so trendy whether worn long or short, thick (box braids) or thin. It’s all about the look you are trying to achieve but most importantly which suits you best. Beyoncé is one who has definitely done well at keeping her braids in formation over the years!

Straight back
Now this hairstyle isn’t necessarily for everyone, it’s only for the brave! This classic look completely locks in all your natural hair for the duration you have the hairstyle on. The thin straight back seems to have taken a back seat in the current African hair styles and Fashion trends, leaving the thicker straight back to taking the lead. Worn up or down, one can take it a step further and get creative at accessorized the hairstyle with bead work.

Organic Curl
The most popular hairstyle right now which everyone is dying to try is the Organic curl as seen on the likes on Nomzamo Mbatha and Ayanda Thabethe. So on the days you feel to carry out the natural hair look this is the perfect hair style for you this season. Be it you opt for clip ins or full coverage, the organic curl provides great coverage of your natural hair and a fantastic illusive boost to the appearance in volume of your hair.

Faux locs
This hair style has made a dramatic and rather unexpected comeback with the likes of Zendaya, Meagan Good and Terry Pheto taking the leap of faith and giving it a chance once again. When Zendaya first sported this look at the 2015 Oscars Red Carpet, she received a lot of racial backlash from the Fashion Police team and ever since many more have stood up in support of and shown admiration of the hairstyle. This is also quite a daring look to try but definitely worth it!

With such a variety of African Hair trends to match the current fashion trends, which has been your favourite hair trend throughout the years?

Personally, I love Zendaya and Nomzamo hairstyles especially for winter, I mean, they more maintainable for me, plus I love volumized hair whether it be braids or Afro wig. Thank you Thando for sharing these hairstyles for us as well as how to rock them.
