So the foodie in me simply couldn’t help but share in on my experience of Daily Dish. Just last week I received a message from the Daily Dish team offering to send me one of their dinner boxes, and of course I wanted in on the experience. I’ve seen quite a few posts on social media about them, but hadn’t had a full on look into what they are all about. So, for the person who may be wondering what they’re all about – this one’s for you.

I will be compiling this blog post a bit differently than I normally do. I’ll be going for more of a day to day diary session like format, just to give as raw a description of each day as possible. I’ll be chatting on the food preparation process and how it all tastes.

So I’ve just received my dinner box containing 4 of the  meals I will be making this week. When I opened the box it was all so well packaged and everything was in order. The ice packs in the box also kept it really cool all the way from Cape Town to Johannesburg – something I’m super impressed about! There was also a sweet personal note from the team as well as a note about who had packed my box, which I consider to be a great personal touch!

Included in the box  were the four meal ingredients I would need to prep my four meals, with each meal packaged and labelled separately. The recipe which had been sent to me via email prior to the arrival of my box were also printed on a lovely A4 page.

Everything has just been so well thought of, I’m so very impressed!

Monday Meal:

Atchar Bangers & Mash

Atchar Bangers & Mash

My thoughts:

Spiced bangers served on sweet potato mash & cumin spiced onions with a cucumber salad.

This meal was quite easy and straight forward to prepare.  What I realised is that it’s okay to twist a “slice” to a “chop” depending on the kind of texture you enjoy. I’m  also such a cucumber lover, and so I went with bigger slices than advised. Oh yes, it was also my very first time trying atchar! Overall, it was a yummy well balanced meal. It was also more filing than I expected it to be.

Tuesday Meal:

Chicken & Chickpea Soup

Chicken & Chickpea Soup

My thoughts:

So I had actually never had Chickpea anything before trying out this recipe. Perhaps I was having a bit of a blonde moment with this one but there were two confusing parts to this recipe.

  1.  I was confused as to whether I messed up by adding all of the chicken stock granules as instructed in point 1. Because at point 5, there was another instruction to add chicken stock again.
  2.  The recipe instructions, point 7 also confused me a bit when it came to where to actually pour the chickpea. Into the              frying pan, or as I thought, into the boiling water in which I had stired in the chicken stock.

I had to do some damage control when I realised I had poured too much boiling water, and I ended up using some soup I had in my pantry just to thicken my soup up. I tried out point 9 and sprinkled the ingredients on top. THAT part just wasn’t for me and removed it all. I just had my soup as is, and I’m happy to say that it all worked out so perfectly and oh so tasty! I’m definitely making this meal again – I LOVED it!

Wednesday Meal:

Bacon Carbonara

Bacon Carbonara

My thoughts:

Everyone who follows me on social media knows just how much of a starch girl I am – particularly pasta and pizza! I was obviously so very excited for this meal. It has also been the simplest recipe to follow and prepare, hence I prepared it on the day I was busiest because I know it wouldn’t be too demanding of my time and energy.

As mentioned above, the recipe was really easy to follow. It all came out really tasty! I had never personally used courgettes in any of my meals and I’m definitely adding it going forward. I went in a bit harder with the flavor at the end, adding a good portion of black pepper and lemon squeeze. Definitely a recipe I highly recommend!

Thursday Meal:

Garlic Cream Steak
Recipe: http://www.dailydish.co.za/recipe/3324/Garlic-Cream-Steak

Garlic Cream Steak

My thoughts:

I’m not much of a steak girl, but I really enjoyed THIS steak. Perhaps because I had control over how it was prepared. I used to always go for well done steak until I realised just how much I was missing out on enjoying all the flavor with  this particular preference. So, I of course now go for medium-rare.

I’m not a green salad girl, but  definitely a potato salad girl so this salad was such a treat! Overal, I loved the fact that this was a quick meal to prepare, and oh so tasty!
