YouTube Music launches in South Africa

Hello, lovers!

I have some exciting news to share with you all.  Some of you may have viewed my Insta Stories ( Follow @Iamthandolwethu )  out and about with  YouTube South Africa but hadn’t quite figured out what the event was all about. Upon arrival, I was also still as clueless as everyone else in the room. All I could tell was that what ever was about to be announced was BIG. As the evening went on, the #YouTubeMusic started to make more sense as I saw some of South Africa’s biggest artists casually walking around the room. This announcement was definitely about to be BIG!

As time went by, we all gathered around the most beautiful and bright stage for the surprise announcement. Yup, you guessed it! YouTube Music has finally made its way to South Africa. The evening wrapped up with the most electric live performances from my favs ; Amanda Black, Nasty C & Rolwene, Lady Zamar.  On top of those amazing performances we were treated to the most amazing food and an assortment of desserts before we wrapped up what turned out to be the most magical night for me.

I’m particularly quite impressed with YouTube Music because I know I have the tendency of forgetting either the title of a song, or the name of the artist. With YouTube Music, I can now search for descriptions, lyrics and even emojis to the songs I want to listen to. Relevant to South Africa is the smart search feature which is available in most of the languages spoken in this country such as isiZulu and isiXhosa. Pretty impressive.

Music lovers will no longer miss out on their favourite tracks simply because they forgot the titles – Google SA Head of Marketing Asha Patel

If you’re already subscribed to the Google Play Music, you automatically get to enjoy access to YouTube Music Premium at the current price point. Google Play Music will remain as is, with you still being  in full access all of your purchased music, uploads and created playlists.
