It’s always encouraging to see that someone still sees value in doing the important work of building a nation of intelligent, business savvy youth. A week ago I came across a program which is doing exactly this! Yes, Instagram and all other social media platforms are in many ways a tool to reaching your desired audience – it’s not JUST Instagram.
Having obtained a degree for a Bcom in Marketing Management and Supply Chain Management, it was a no brainer for me to want to enter into the world of entrepreneurship. However, it’s not as easy as it seems. There is a large gap which needs to be bridged after one studies and as one enters into the reality of what it actually takes to make it in such a cut throat environment.
Now to introduce to you Threads, the Business of Fashion accelerator program, sponsored by Standard Bank in association with Mercedez-Benz. To sum things up, this 12-week accelerator program is designed to teach fashion entrepreneurs with already existing businesses operating in South Africa all about the business side of the fashion industry. Curated in partnership with the University Cattolica of Milan, the program will be taking place in 4 regional classrooms in South Africa: Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.
The goal of the educational program is to upscale South African fashion entrepreneurs by enabling them with the right knowledge, tools and networks to thrive internationally and provide a brilliant opportunity for fashion entrepreneurs to gain international exposure. In total, 12 fashion entrepreneurs from all over South Africa will be selected to be a part of the program. Each week, the entrepreneurs will be tackling a specific area of their business from marketing to logistics and even eCommerce. From this program entrepreneurs will gain a wealth of priceless knowledge, network and mentoring. Furthermore, the top performing entrepreneur will be awarded an all expenses paid business trip to Europe, a Mercedes-Benz car and Brand Ambassadorship for 12 months and a Standard Bank SME starter pack.
Judges on the programme include well established individuals whom are highly trusted and successful entrepreneurs: Basetsana Kumalo, Timothy Maurice, Laduma of MaxHosa, Jackie Burger and Vincent Hoogduin CEO of Spree.
You cannot transit wisdom and insight to another person. The seed already there. A good teacher touches the seed, allowing it to wake up, to sprout, and to grow. – Thich Nhat Hanh
